Bio: Raffael Marty is the founder of Loggly (http://logg.ly) – a log management in the cloud company. He is a seasoned IT security professional with a passion for data analysis and visualization.
During his career, Raffy has been involved in all aspects of software development. Back in the day, he wrote crypto software, then got engaged in helping Fortune 500 companies solve their security and compliance issues, and then moved into product management, where he acted as a conduit for customer issues, new ideas, and market requirements.
A security geek at heart, Raffael spends a ton of time analyzing and visualizing log data. To help analyze this data, he developed a couple of open source visualization tools that are being used, for example by government agencies, to understand their data. Raffael has been instrumental in building and defining the security visualization space. A cumulation of his work he published in his book, Applied Security Visualization and along with the secviz portal (http://secviz.org), these are today the primary resources for information related to security visualization.
Raffy loves public speaking, and presents regularly at security and hacker conferences around the world. Through all of his extracurricular activities, such as the involvement in a number of conferences and the participation on standards committees, he is frequently consulted for input on data analysis and security by companies around the world. In his spare time, Raffy surfs the California waves and finds peace in meditation. Raffael lives and works in San Francisco.
